Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia

On behalf of the Government of Georgia and the Georgian people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expresses its deepest sympathy and conveys its condolences to the entire Polish nation on the occasio of the tragic accident near Smolensk causing the death of the President of the Republic of Poland H.E. Lech Kaczyński, his spouse, Mrs. Maria Kaczyńska and other esteemed members of the official Polish delegation.

Our particular sympathies go to the families of the bereaved victims, who have lost their loved ones during the plane crash. The Georgian people regard the loss of Mr. Kaczyński as their own tragedy, and express their deepest sympathy to the Polish people.

Mr. Kaczyński firmly stood by the values and principles of freedom and democracy throughout his life.

He represents the very symbol of freedom and solidarity not only for Georgia and Poland, but also for the entire Europe.His death represents a great loss for all the free nations, who share the same values of liberty and democracy.

In accordance with the presidential order, Lech Kaczyński is granted posthumously the Title of the National Hero of Georgia and April 11th is announced as an official Mourning Day.
