The visit of the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili to Poland

The Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, David Usupashvili held the 2-day visit to Poland to participate in the Central-Eastern European Countries’ Parliamentary Meeting.

On August 30 David Usupashvili met with the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Marek Kuchciński.

As the Marshal stated, visit of Georgian Delegation will further facilitate to enhancement of bilateral relations. He underlined that opinions of Georgian and Polish people on European security coincide and the development and security of the European family was the main focus at the meetings on August 30-31.

According to the Marshal of Sejm Georgia and the situation in the region is well-known Poland.

The Speaker thanked the Polish counterpart for invitation and noted that during his 4-year term as the Speaker, most frequent visits he served to Poland that once again demonstrates special relations between two countries. He is sure, as the Speaker noted, that next Speaker will further actively cooperate with the Sejm. The Speaker spoke about the role of Russia in Georgia and in the region, Russian propaganda and challenges in the region. Georgian people always felt support by Poland, he stated. The parties touched upon importance of the Parliamentary meeting of the Central and South European countries. It was stated that Interparliamentary cooperation has particular importance in addressing the strategic issues and challenges Europe is facing now.

The Marshal thanked the Speaker for participation in the event and reconfirmed support to Georgia.

At the meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Central-Eastern and South European countries on August 31, attended by the Speakers from 10 countries (Poland, Georgia, Ukraine, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, FYROM, Serbia, Turkey, Belarus) and Vice-Speakers from 3 countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Moldova) development of regional interparliamentary cooperation was the main issue. The willingness to conduct the meetings in this format on regular basis was stressed. The Marshal of the Sejm initiated to host the next Parliamentary Summit in the same format in beginning of 2017 in Warsaw. The Challenges Europe faces currently was among major issues addressed by the participants. As it was mentioned, the notion of the Borders of Europe is not the same as the EU borders and all the challenges now in the EU directly affect non-EU member European countries present at the forum.  Therefore, need for better coordination and cooperation was stressed including in various regional formats. The Polish side once again reconfirmed support to the European aspirations of the participating countries.
