Statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry in reaction to the death of seven Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan

The Georgian Foreign Ministry wishes to express its deep sorrow over the recent death of seven Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan who fell in an attack on a Georgian military base, and conveys its condolences to the families of the victims.

The Georgian soldiers died a heroic death defending both the national security of their own country and global peace and stability; the names of Private (First Class) Zviad Sulkhanishvili, Corporal Giorgi Adamov, Private (First Class) Giorgi Guchashvili, Corporal Boris Tsugoshvili, Private (First Class) Zurab Gurgenashvili, Corporal Teimuraz Ortavidze and Private Mikheil Narindoshvili will never be forgotten.

This is a devastating loss for their families and for Georgia as a whole, and the Foreign Ministry reveres the memory of the country's fallen heroes.

This tragedy confirms once again that terrorism remains one of the greatest challenges to international security, as well as the necessity of international efforts to combat it in any form. Georgia remains committed to continuing to make a valuable contribution to the process of ensuring global peace and stability.
