Statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry in reaction to the death of three Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan

The Georgian Foreign Ministry wishes to express its deep sorrow over the recent death of three Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan, and conveys its condolences to the families of the victims. Junior Sergeant Zviad Davitadze, Corporal Alexander Kvitsinadze and Corporal Vladimer Shanava died a heroic death defending both their own country and global peace and security. This is a devastating loss for their families, for Georgia's armed forces and for the country as a whole.

Together with their international partners, Georgian soldiers have been serving for several years already as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, where they are making a valuable contribution to the process of ensuring international peace and security.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry reveres the memory of these fallen heroes, and is confident that the lasting impact of their tragic death will not be forgotten by future generations of Georgians.
