Statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry regarding the invitation of International Observers from the OSCE

The Georgian Foreign Ministry has officially invited the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) to send teams of observers to Georgia to monitor the upcoming October 2013 presidential elections.

The Foreign Ministry has conveyed its request to the OSCE in time to ensure that observers arrive in Georgia at their earliest convenience, enabling them to thoroughly monitor both the pre-electoral process and the presidential elections themselves.

The official invitations sent to OSCE's ODIHR and PA underscore the importance of holding maximally transparent, free and fair elections in Georgia, and reaffirm Georgia's readiness to provide international observers with every form of support they need in order to carry out their duties effectively.
