On the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Warsaw, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze took part in the meeting of the NATO Foreign Ministers and the Foreign Ministers of the Enhanced Opportunity Partner’s Group.  The Enhanced Opportunity Partner’s Group was launched at the NATO Summit in Wales, by the Member States of the Alliance, with the goal of further deepening co-operation between the armed forces of Allies and Partners.

We, Allied Foreign Ministers and the Foreign Minister of Georgia, met today in Warsaw, Poland, in the NATO-Georgia Commission (NGC) to discuss progress and priorities in cooperation between Georgia and NATO, as well as current international security issues.  This was the first NATO-Georgia Commission at a NATO Summit.  Allied Ministers congratulated Georgia on its 25 years of Independence and the significant progress it has made in that time.  They also recognized the unique scope and depth of Georgia’s relationship with the Alliance.  In light of this relationship, Allied Ministers welcomed Georgia’s engagement in strategic discussion on Black Sea security and recent developments in the region affecting Euro-Atlantic security.

On 1 July 2016 the EU-Georgia Association Agreement came into force in compliance with its Article 431, after the EU Foreign Affairs Council announced its decision to end the procedures needed for ratification of the AA. The laborious process of ratification lasted less than two years and involved the European Parliament, 28 EU Member States and the legislative bodies of Georgia. The ratification of the Association Agreement in such short terms points to the EU Member States’ firm support for Georgia’s European path.

In the frames of Mikheil Janelidze’s visit to the Republic of Poland, Georgian and Polish Foreign Ministers launched "Tbilisi Conference" - a new format for co-operation between Georgia and Poland, which represents a platform initiated by Poland with a view to supporting Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

In a few days I will return to Warsaw, Poland to attend the NATO Summit. I believe the Summit will adopt an important decision to ensure the security of the Euro-Atlantic space and to facilitate  Georgia’s integration with the Alliance. This Summit took on a particularly meaningful focus after the Brexit and now we need to stand together and reflect on the ways how to strengthen this unique project of European unity, peace, stability and development - the Georgian Foreign Minister, Mikheil Janelidze is quoted as saying in Warsaw, at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, where he  delivered a speech: “Georgia in the Euro-Atlantic Security Paradigm”.
